Scanning for channels

Modified on Fri, 7 Aug at 6:56 AM

If you conducted an initial automatic channel scan during the setup of your ADTH NextGen TV Box but need to perform another scan, follow these steps:

Auto Scan:

  1. In the program guide, press the BACK button on the remote to open the sidebar.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Auto Scan.
  3. Select your country (Currently only USA is available).
  4. Press "Scan" to start the scanning process.
  5. A success window will appear after scanning is complete.

Note: If you need to scan specific channels or frequencies, use the Manual Scan function.

Manual Scan:

  1. Go to Settings > Manual Scan.
  2. Choose the range you want from the physical channel number list.
  3. Choose the standard.
  4. Press "Scan" to initiate.

Note:

The steps above apply to version 1.0.98 and later, where Manual Scan offers a selectable list of physical channel numbers. On versions before 1.0.98 you instead entered the start and end frequencies in kHz and set the bandwidth to 6000 kHz, and then chose the standard.

Add or Resetting Channels:

  • Add to Existing Channels

Select this option to keep your current channels and add newly found channels to the list. This option is recommended if you do not want to lose previously scanned channels and only wish to search and add additional channels.

  • Erase Existing Channels and Reset

Choose this option to delete all current channels and reset the channel list to include only newly scanned channels.

If the scan finds no channels, or misses the ones you expect

  1. Check that the coaxial cable from the antenna is screwed firmly into the box.
  2. Run Auto Scan again and choose Add to Existing Channels, so a partial scan does not wipe channels you already had.
  3. Check whether you receive any channels at all. If ATSC 1.0 channels come in but NextGen TV (ATSC 3.0) channels do not, that points to the NextGen broadcast in your area rather than to your box, and it is worth telling us which channels are missing.
  4. Check your antenna aim. Tower directions for your address are listed at antennaweb.org, and a NextGen TV station may transmit from a different tower than the stations you already receive. See Achieving Better Channel Reception with Your Antenna.
  5. Leave the box in standby overnight and check again, because signal conditions vary through the day.

If channels are still missing after that, please contact support with your serial number, software version, your city, and the specific channel numbers you expect, so we can check them against that market.
